There
are certain people whose company is only enjoyable when you constantly talk
about the past. Your conversation with them becomes meaningful when you join
them in an expedition down memory lane. Nothing is ever mentioned about what
they are doing and where they are going. Renowned author and teacher, Dr Mike Murdock describes the effect of the past through these words: “Our
houses are full of pictures about our past, pictures that are hanging all over
our walls. Hence, we are always caught up in a tragic mindset of living in the
past, because we have not taken the effort to design the pictures about the
kind of future we desire.” Listen, there is nothing wrong when you once in a
while visit the museum of your past but it is catastrophic when the cemetery of
your past becomes your dwelling place. You cannot afford to live in the past
when the future is beckoning you. What you need to take into cognisance is that
your past is buried, your present is what matters and your future is wrapped in
the core of what you are currently doing.
